Marketers talk about needing an elevator pitch. How would you describe your company in 3-5 seconds? This sounds easy enough to create, right?  But the reality is, it’s one of the most difficult statements to get right. Why? Because it forces you to think about your vital message. What is that one, simple vital message you want a perfect stranger to remember about your company? For reference my Ridpath Creative elevator pitch is We create imaginative stories that make you look good at a sensible price.

Take Some Time To Collect Your Thoughts
If you don’t have an elevator pitch, it’s time to create one. The simple process of sitting down and thinking about your company’s value proposition and how to convey it to your audience is always a good exercise. Many times, businesses get wrapped up in day-to-day operations, and they forget to take a step back and evaluate their value. Collect your thoughts. Collect feedback, both positive and negative from customers. Evaluate your value prop to make sure it still resonates. If not, it may be time to course correct.

Practice Your Pitch
Once you have your elevator pitch created, it’s a good idea to practice the pitch on your friends and colleagues. If your pitch is too difficult for you to convey, or you get more questions than clarity from your audience, you may need to simplify your message to make it memorable and easy to understand.  Remember, the elevator pitch is a mini commercial, a 3-5 second commercial, about your company. It’s important to get it right!
